Governor trailer out: Manoj Bajpayee plays RBI chief who stopped India from going bankrupt
The trailer opens with India on the verge of bankruptcy and one man tasked with stopping the collapse. Bajpayee’s line “If I fail, India fails” sums up the film’s entire premise.
The official trailer of ‘Governor: The Silent Saviour’ is out. This film is an upcoming historical drama starring Manoj Bajpayee in lead role. It is backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under banner of Sunshine Pictures and reportedly draws inspiration from real events linked to India’s economic crisis in the 1990s.
What the trailer shows
The trailer presents a tense narrative set during a period when the country was reportedly facing severe financial instability and stood on the verge of economic collapse. Bajpayee plays A. Ramanan, appointed as the Governor of the RBI, here referred to as the Rashtriya Bank of India, during the country’s economic crisis in the 1990s.

The character is tasked with pulling the nation back from the brink of financial collapse while the entire system works against him.
Sharing the trailer on social media, Manoj Bajpayee wrote, “If I fail… India fails.” The actor described the film as the untold story of a brave unsung hero who saved the country during one of its most difficult economic periods.
The real history behind the film
The film dramatises India’s worst economic meltdown of the 1990s, when foreign and gold reserves depleted sharply and the nation faced a balance-of-payments crisis. The government was forced to pledge gold to international lenders and undertake urgent policy reforms, including liberalisation of the economy.
The narrative is thought to be based on the life of S. Venkitaramanan, who was instrumental in the 1991 financial crisis, though this is inspired by actual events. The makers have not yet officially confirmed this connection.
Cast and crew
Bajpayee plays the role of an RBI Governor tackling an intense national economic crisis, while Adah Sharma plays a key lead. The film is directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The movie also stars Noushad Mohamed Kunju in an important role.
‘Governor: The Silent Saviour’ marks the second directorial outing for Chinmay D. Mandlekar, who is also known for his work in Marathi cinema and television. The music for the film is composed by Amit Trivedi.
